Privacy Policy
Effective 13 October 2026
The short version: we collect what we need to run Wootout: your reels, your letters and messages, the campaigns you join, and the buddies you make. We do not sell your data and we do not run ads. Other people only ever see your location as an area or city, never an exact spot. You can delete your account and everything on it from inside the app.
Who we are
Wootout ("we", "us") runs the Wootout app and the website at wootout.in: a place for short, purposeful reels, letters you throw to your buddies, and campaigns that people carry from city to city. You can reach us at hello@wootout.in.
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Google or Apple we receive your name, your email address and an account identifier through Firebase Authentication. If you use Apple's "Hide my email", we receive a private relay address instead of your real one. We never see your Google or Apple password.
- Your profile. Your name, a one-line bio, your profile photo (and a cut-out of it if you choose one), the interests you pick, and, if you add it, the city you are in.
- Your reels. The videos you upload, their titles, categories and covers, and anything you make tappable in them (for example a place, a link or a product name).
- Campaigns. Campaigns you start (their name, what people should show, their dates and any sponsor you add), the live photos and short videos you post to them, and when you tap "Same here". With each post we store the location it was sent from. Other people only ever see that location rounded to about 5 km, as an area or city, and you can post without your name.
- Letters and messages. What you write, the stickers you add, the cities a letter flies between, and when it was sent and read. Messages are stored on our servers so they reach the other person; they are not end-to-end encrypted.
- Buddies. Who you add, who you accept, and who you block.
- Activity in the app. Scores you give reels, reels you watch (each person counts once as a view), badges you earn, and reports you make.
- Notifications. If you allow them, a device token so we can send you push notifications, for example when a letter lands or someone wants to be your buddy.
- Technical data. Your IP address and device information in routine server logs. Video playback quality data (start-up time, buffering, errors) is collected by our video provider.
Things that stay on your phone
- Some features run entirely on your phone and are not sent to us: suggesting what to make tappable in a reel, finding the best moments when you edit, making a story to share, and your Focus timer.
- Wootout asks for your camera, microphone, photos and location only when you use a feature that needs them, such as filming for a campaign or adding your city. You can change these permissions in your phone's settings.
How we use it
- To run the service: show your reels, deliver your letters and messages, put your campaign posts on the map, count views and scores, and award badges.
- To keep it purposeful and safe: new reels are checked, partly with the help of an AI service, to see whether they fit Wootout's purpose; people review campaigns before they go public; and we act on reports.
- To notify you about things you asked for, such as letters, buddy requests, and campaigns you are part of.
- To fix problems and improve reliability.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
What other people can see
- Your name, photo, bio, reels, badges, views and public profile are visible to other signed-in people.
- Your campaign posts and the area they came from are visible on the campaign's wall and map. Posts you make without your name show no name.
- Your letters and messages are only visible to you and the person you sent them to.
- Your email address is never shown to other people.
- Scores are shown as averages. Other people do not see how you personally scored a reel.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers who process data for us, only to provide Wootout:
- Google (Firebase Authentication and Google Sign-In) for sign-in, and Firebase Cloud Messaging for Android notifications.
- Apple for Sign in with Apple and iPhone notifications.
- Bunny (Bunny Stream and Bunny Storage) to store and stream videos and photos.
- Railway to host our servers and database.
- OpenAI to help check whether new reels fit Wootout's purpose, and to turn speech into text when you use voice features. It receives the parts of a reel needed for that check.
- Telegram, where our team receives short alerts about things waiting for review, such as a new campaign's name and the first name of the person who started it.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.
Keeping and deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time in the app under You → Delete account. This removes your profile, your reels (and their videos from our video provider), your campaign posts and the campaigns you started, your letters and messages (from both sides of the conversation), your buddies, scores, badges, blocks and notification tokens. If you signed in with Apple, we also ask Apple to end Wootout's access to your Apple account. Routine server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and are then removed.
Your choices and rights
- You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
- You can post to a campaign without your name, and you can leave out your city.
- You can block and report other people and their content inside the app.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing hello@wootout.in. Deleting your account in the app is the fastest way to delete your data.
Children
Wootout is not for children under 13. If you are under 18 you should use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us information without permission, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Traffic to and from the app is encrypted. Sessions expire, and account deletion is enforced on our servers. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your Google or Apple account secure and your phone up to date.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
Contact and grievances
